My Truths

My truths are many when it comes to the so-called “relationship” I had with my narc. I know I always did the next right thing. I wasn’t perfect but I never knowingly or intentionally hurt him. I know I didn’t lie to him. And I know I didn’t cheat on him either.

Not once did I stop believing in him, betray him in any way or stop loving him (until now). I tried my best to be supportive and make him feel secure. I tried so hard to make him believe in the love I had for him. I changed in a lot of ways to be his ‘ideal’ woman that I thought he wanted.

I stayed by his side because we took vows before God and promised to love, honor and cherish each other. I know I did my part but it wasn’t reciprocated. I know I stayed faithful and honored him. I loved him until I couldn’t anymore. And I cherished what I could by holding on to the beginning- when he made me fall in love with him. And I kept loving him regardless of him tormenting me with his paranoia and delusional rages… Regardless of the abuse… Regardless of my fears… Regardless of the red flags… Regardless of him sleeping with my friend… Regardless of the shame, guilt and humiliation… I loved him REGARDLESS.

My truth is I allowed this to happen to me. I paved the way for him treat me the way he did because I made it okay to control almost everything about me, okay for him to disrespect me, okay for him to be abusive towards me. I even made it okay for him to lie and cheat on me because I always ignored it or kept quiet by looking the other way.

My truth is that I was already broken when he came into life. I’d only been one day out of the hospital after a serious attempts to take my life. I’d just lost my son to his father because THAT verbally and emontionally abusive relationship came to an end and I was still shaken up by HIS cheating on me and I planned to “finish what I started” until David showed up.

My truth is I fed David all the ammunition he needed to become the man of my dreams. I told him everything I felt my previous relationships lacked and what I wanted in a man.  I shared way to much too soon. I mistook the way he pretended to care and understand me and things I’d been through when he was just really looking for ways in. I fell for all the ways he identified with me. And my heart broke at his tales of the abuse he went through that was similar to mine.

The truth is I was gullible.

The truth is I stayed too long.

The truth is I fell too hard.

The truth is I loved too deeply.

The truth is I believed naively.

The trutht is I wanted to be loved so desperately.

The truth is I needed someone to understand me.

The truth is I loved an illusion.

The truth is it’s time to let go because MY TRUTH is I no longer love him so there’s nothing to hold on to anymore.

His Projection

He had always accused me of cheating. Basically since day one. He laid down the rules about the things he considered cheating (besides the obvious like sex, kissing and touching or anything physical and/or emotional) and so he said going over to another guy’s house, texting another guy, even just talking to another guy was cheating- so we agreed on what we wouldn’t do. Of course, being the hypocrite he was, I soon learned that the “rules” did not apply to him.

He threw up some red flags when he came barging in one night screaming “where is he” and began looking frantically in closets and under the bed and in the shower. I remember thinking he was paranoid. It was only a sign of what was to come. Unfortunately, I ignored those red flags and felt sorry that his exes must have really hurt him for him to act that way.

I also saw some text messages he’d sent to a few of his good friends saying “I think my girl is cheating on me” even though there was NOTHING to substanciate it. When I confronted him he never did have anything to say even when I explained it was making me look bad and it upset me. Little did I know he had begun his smear campaign. And it was just the beginning of the accusations and ruining my reputation.

Soon, he was always accusing me. 24/7. With everyone! His friends, neighbors, my exes, everyone on my friends list, even every homeless guy on the streets! Said I snuck them in when he was sleeping or showering or even just using the bathroom! Said I was giving blow jobs out the window. There was no common sense used in his accusations.

He said people talked about me and he tried to make me believe that people had ‘warned’ him about me (mostly people that I didn’t know and didn’t know me at all,but a few that I did know and it really hurt me) saying I was a slut and prostituted myself! I was upset and humiliated. Eventually I didn’t want to go anywhere or have anyone over because I was angry and embarrassed.

He put up cameras that would stream right to his phone- so he could ‘prove’ that I was cheating on him as well as sneaking guys in. The cameras were all over the house. Even in the bathroom and shower! And he would stay up all hours of the night started watching his recordings (of NOTHING) often waking me up because he’d “found something”
(it was always just me by myself) and he would often wake me up super early to start screaming his accusations at me and it would last all day and all night until I begged him to let me sleep then I usually ended up crying myself to sleep or passing out from exhaustion.

Gone were the days he called me “baby”. All he called me now was whore or slut or any other derogatory name he thought of. He talked about me like that to everyone.

He then started not letting me leave the house so I wouldn’t do any of the so-called cheating. Then he started screwing all the windows, the door and slider shut from the inside (There were over 79 screws in the front door’s frame!) and he would hide the drill bits so I couldn’t get out. He said it would prevent me from f*cking every guy around.

It got crazy and he wouldn’t listen to anyone that tried talking to him. I wasn’t allowed to make eye contanct with guys and God forbid if I was ever just being polite and smiled and/or said “hi”. If one of his friends came over I was not supposed to look at them at all. If I did, I’d get the evil eye as he slowly would shake his head and I knew was in for it.

Then here was the craziness with my social media. To help make him feel more secure I deleted all males unless I knew them really well. Often times I would find out he had blocked guys without telling or asking me. He also had a habit (which totally embarrassed me) of sending lame messages to other guys (his friends, my friends and even strangers) accusing them of being with me and telling them to stay away.

His acccusations were really pissing people off and he was also offending his friends (and me). I made excuses for his insecurity and explained I thought it was something mental. I even made him go to the crisis center at mental health but he wasn’t honest and would let me talk to them and charmed his way into making them believe it was me and not him who was crazy.

All the constant accusations wore me out and definitely broke me down. There were a few nights I just begged him to please not bring it up and the times he agreed, things were great- just like in the beginning. But the reality was that he had become increasingly paranoid and very abusive in every way. I became afraid of him and his rages.

I used to feel so damn bad for him… I really thought he was losing his mind and having some kind of breakdown. It broke my heart watching him fall apart and that’s why the truth hurt me so bad when I found out HE was the one cheating and that he had lied about so many things. When I tried calling him out on his double standards and HIM not following the “rules” he’d just ignore me or start a fight about something else.

And when we were together I would have NEVER thought he’d cheat on me- not with how he accused me of it all the time. But cheaters accuse you of cheating just like liars accuse you of lying. I didn’t realize he was doing both. And not with so many, that’s for sure!

We eventually got kicked out and had nowhere to go but the streets. He only got worse. I reached out to one of the few friends he had left for help after he pulled a knife on someone for letting me charge my phone. I also reached out to his old sponsor to help him because I was sincerely worried about him. He would not listen to anyone. That’s when I’d had enough and told him I was going inpatient to get clean and I hoped he would too.

The truth was I couldn’t take anymore. Not once had I ever cheated or even thought about cheating. My story never changed. I even told him I’d go to my deathbed trying to prove I never cheated on him. I finally realized that even if God himself came down and told him I hadn’t cheated, he’d still believe I had.

I couldn’t take anymore. I was tired of being badgered all the time. Tired of being called a whore. Tired of him not loving me. Tired of being disrespected, ashamed and embarrassed by him.

We both ended up eventually getting clean but that didn’t stop the accusations. He still swore he had all this ‘proof’ with his recordings but yet never proved ANYTHING. So I told him if he kept bringing it up and didn’t let it all go I didn’t want to be with him. He didn’t stop. Ever…

When I started learning about narcissism (after he told me he was diagnosed with it) my heart literally broke into million pieces. But slowly the anger has set in realizing that he had purposely put me through all that turmoil knowing damn well I’d never cheated!!!

The whole situation was some heartless and calculated game to him. He smeared me and devalued me- just broke me completely down. He sucked the life out of me. Stole my spirit. Emptied my soul. Changed me for good by projecting HIS wrong doings onto me. That was a hard fucking pill to swallow!

Hatred

I hate him; my narc.

I hate that I still miss him.

I hate that he doesn’t care.

I hate that he won’t admit anything.

I hate that he’s not sorry.

I hate that I believed in him.

I hate that I let him hurt me.

I hate that I loved him.

I hate that he pretended to love me.

I hate that I gave my mind, body and soul to him.

I hate that I regret ever meeting him.

I hate that I didn’t leave the 1st time he hurt me, scared me, lied to me.

I hate that I kept holding on.

I hate that the greatest love of my life has turned out to be my biggest regret.

I hate that he’s happily carrying on.

I hate that I can’t stop thinking of him.

I hate that he’s a narcissist.

I hate him with everything in me.

I hate that no one understands.

I hate that I can’t unlove or un-meet him.

I hate that I can’t figure out how to let go.

I hate that he changed me.

I hate I can’t trust anybody (even myself).

I hate that I’ve lost my joy and my hope.

I hate that this has happened to me.

But mostly I hate that I have all this hate in my heart.

*************************

I wrote that a few weeks ago when I was still confused trying to understand what happened. I was still brokenhearted and hadn’t accepted anything. I think it was just TOO MUCH for me to even try and accept.

But I convinced myself to accept that the truth about my reality of the relationship was distorted.

It wasn’t real, true love.

We definitely weren’t “soulmates”.

There is no such thing as “forever and a day”.

My truths were that I was broken, hopeless and hurting after being discarded. I’ve had to constantly remind myself he did that without thinking twice and never looked back. I made myself believe that it was all fake and I loved an illusion. I know for a fact he cheated on me at least 3 times. And I know now he just used me for a place to stay and money. I also know that none of it’s my fault and I didn’t deserve to be treated that way.

Once I accepted everything the anger started setting in. And I hated any and everything that had anything to do with that relationship. He was a very believable actor though… I should have listened to the warnings I got from an ex girlfriend, ex wife and even his own sister. I really should have ran from him knowing he spent time in prison for domestic violence charges. I should have been smarter.

Most of my anger has now shifted to me.

I’m angry at myself for not recognizing the abuse and manipulations when I was always feeling something was “off”. Angry I stood by him no matter what just believing and loving him. I’m angry I lost who I was.

I’m starting to begin to let go of everything ESPECIALLY THE HATRED. He doesn’t get to win!

My Story

Sometimes I feel so alone because the people I’m close to don’t understand how deeply the trauma is affecting me. Some, I know, are just tired of hearing about the relationship I had with David. And they just think I have a ‘victim mentality’.

So I started reading about narcissism and abuse. I educated myself so I can understand and things finally started making sense. I was able to put a name to what I went through… What I was feeling.

I follow a few blogs and I also joined a couple online support groups. Im dumbfounded seeing how many people go through the same thing. I was honestly shocked because there are so many people affected by loving a narcissist and I finally don’t feel so alone. A lot of our stories are the same.

Doing these things is helping me begin the healing process. Commenting and sharing totally helps me work through the pain. And writing this blog- getting everything out, remembering ALL the reasons NOT to love and miss him anymore, getting out of my head and knowing through others stories that we will heal… It all makes such a difference.

So I’m not staying silent. And maybe my story will help someone else. I hope it does.

Last Touches

I want to un-meet him. Just go back in time and completely erase him from my history. Delete him from my memories. And I needed to remove his last touches from my body.

Realizing that I still was somehow ‘linked’ to him this way was unacceptable to me. I didn’t want any of that replaying in my head.

It truly sickened me that the last touches I felt were from David. Especially knowing all the betrayal… The lies… The cheating. He wasn’t loyal in any way. I just didn’t want it to be my last but I was too scared to seek someone else.

His last touches made so sick because I knew who some of the females were that he cheated on me with. He has no standards. Let’s just say he would f*ck ANY and EVERY chick he came across. And, honestly, it disgusts me.

Being cheated on changes you. Permanently. It kills off your self- esteem and makes you feel like you’re not good enough. It makes you question your self-worth. It makes you ask “what’s wrong with me”. And it sets the tone for your next relationship… Always questioning and never trusting them. It’s really not fair.

He made me feel I wasn’t valued at all. Or respected. It made me feel unlovable and utterly replaceable. I was already insecure but this… This made it a thousand times worse. I felt ugly and fat. I couldn’t stop criticizing myself! I needed to know what was so wrong with me that not only did he have to look elsewhere, but with some nasty- ass whores!!! Gross.

But someone’s got me. He erased those touches and replaced them with his. His kisses. His touches. His loving on me. If feels good to be wanted. As well as when I feel lonely I can look back at intimate times fondly and not want to throw up and get mad.

These touches are soft. Kind. Caring. Trustworthy. Happy. I can rember my last touches with a smile on my face now…

My Triangulation

Triangulation. One of the ways a narcissist tries to break you and make you think you’re crazy. It’s adding a 3rd party to your relationship but they’re already in a relationship with the narc. He will use you against each other and try to make both sources jealous.

My triangulation (at least the major one I noticed) was with a good friend (or so I thought she was anyway). She came over one night and I swear I caught them making flirty faces to each other! When I looked up at him he was biting his bottom lip (something he always did to flirt) and they were staring at each other- actually the amount of staring she was doing at him had already gotten on my nerves. So I called them out: “WTF?!?!”

They both said I was mistaken. Maybe if it wasn’t for the fact we were all getting high I might not have believed them.

So the next morning he goes to get quarters for the laundry but doesn’t come back for about 2 hours. He walked in smiling, face red and some bullshit story that he had to go to a few different places and ran into someone he knew. Apparently he didn’t hear the phone when I was calling and texting! And again, I chalked it up to me trippin’ because we were high.

So she calls later that afternoon and she’s hysterically crying. I couldn’t even understand her on the phone. She just kept telling me she loved me and she was sorry… Saying I was her closest friend. It was a wierd enough conversation that I asked her point blank if they had fucked around. He was right there and got mad.

She started saying “I’m your friend.. I wouldn’t do that.”

But my gut instinct told me otherwise. Of course this was just another instance of MANY where I didn’t listen to my internal intuition. Something I now totally regret!

She ends up coming over that night and I was really asking “WTF”… Shes an emotional mess still, talking to David but shutting up when she sees I’m near and/or paying attention. But him??? He’s PISSED! I caught him several times looking at her and shaking his head ‘no’. I remember my heart dropping and just knowing they had fucked around. They both vehemently deny it everytime I bring it up.

So, I ignored the situation and looked the other way. Guess I didn’t want to know the truth. Maybe it just hurt too bad.

So… Things stayed awkward when the three of us were together. I remember a couple things that stood out to me that they did. Him knowing exactly where she lived and jumping out of the car to talk to her before me. Her siding with him if we had an argument. More instances of them staring at each other and making flirty faces. And one of the worst.. she asked what we did all day once and I laughed and said we had sex all day.. she hit him in his leg and her expression said “REALLY???” but I kept my mouth shut. Then I would purposely bring up our sex life and get her mad every time.

I caught them talking to each other behind my back because they would each know things but not from me. I saw he was deleting messages on FB and his phone. He was suddenly getting a lot of calls from private numbers. I downloaded his FB data and saw the they messaged each other very often (yet he was deleting the messages). I finally caught them texting and talking and she said she just needed someone to vent to. I made it clear that them carrying on conversations behind my back was very inappropriate… And suddenly a texting app was on his phone that he kept signed out of.. smh.

She ended up getting together with one of his friends who told her David was cheating on me. She was not happy. And just like that she started refusing to come over and said she hates him now. He started giving me ultimatums- I had to choose between him or her because he was always telling “she’s not your friend”.

This was around the time he started laying hands on me and she saw the bruises, got me in contact with the domestic violence hotline then after learning there was no openings at the shelter she brought me back to him. I thought it was odd she didn’t even offer me to stay and sleep on her couch!

So she was still hating him. Then I answered a call in his phone from a private number- she was surprised it was me. Suddenly she no longer hated him. Which told me they were obviously still having conversations behind my back.

The strange thing was he was constantly accusing me of cheating (projection at it’s finest)!

Once I had a VM from him that went on and on because he forgot to hang up his phone. I hear her voice .. then he says “I was going to come see you tonight anyways” but he talked his way out of that and I ‘forgot’ (ignored) it. But there was always weirdness between those two and I usually ended up feeling like the 3rd wheel.

Fast forward to us being out on the streets… I’d ask if I could come shower or wash clothes and she’d ignore me. But awhile later me and her boyfriend got to talking and doing some comparisons on stories we were told by each of them. They definitely did NOT add up!!!

There were soooooo many lies! She was letting him come shower and eat at her house. She was visiting him in the hospital and bringing him cigarettes. She even did all his laundry for him. And her boyfriend told me David was ALWAYS calling her all hours of the night. And he saw a bunch of texts on her phone and messenger. Once when he showed up at her house David was actually there (and I didn’t know he was there). A lot of situations went down that we got different versions.

I had to face the facts that there wouldn’t be a reason to lie or have different stories unless they were hiding something from me.

Again I called them out.

Again they deny it. But I couldn’t stay a fool and eventually quit talking to her. When she asks what she did to make me ignore her I say “David. You did David.” I tell them both I know without a doubt they both betrayed me. The denials continue on her part but he just ignores me. It really hurts because I truly loved him and she was a close friend and I shared everything with her (David too obviously).

So, I am at the point of acceptance with my triangulation. She still tries to communicate but I’ve blocked her after her story changed to ‘Davids disgusting and I would never be with him’ this coming from the female who always used to tell me how good looking she thought he was.

More lies.

More reasons to believe it happened. No doubt in my mind whatsoever.

My triangulation was heartbreaking and left me thinking ill never be able to trust ANYONE again. And I will always trust my instincts.

“Better”

I’ve reached the place that I’ll have to accept who you never would be
I can’t afford anymore tears shed
You honestly don’t deserve them
You’ve broken me in so many ways
The worst is not knowing exactly who it was I loved
I wish I could shrug it off and keep moving forward every day
It hurts so deep realizing we were just not real after all
I was nothing more than a fool
In each and every possible way
Believing in someone when the reasons were none
And I’ll never understand why someone could be so cruel
With all your empty promises
I’m left with the bittersweet memories I’ve cherished
They hold no value to you
I was the fool who fell for your lies
Confused by my low self-esteem
I breathed all of you in but then you just sucked the life out of me
It no longer hurts when I think of you loving on someone else
I’ve watched you replay the tape
Nothing’s changed except maybe her name
Because you’re still nothing more than a shell of what a real man should be
You’ve not ever once put somebody ahead of yourself
You’re capable of loving only when it’s convenient for you
You poured salt in my wounds
But it all only proves its not any more real for you with somebody new
Because you’re still a lost soul
So unhappy with yourself
You make everyone close to you that way too
And one day soon I’ll know what it’s like to not have a single
Reason to think about you
You taken everything else
Time is now all I have to myself
It’ll be so much better not spending it with you
